Topical Waterproof Shower Preparation

Topical Waterproof GoBoard Backerboard

01

Waterproof Backerboard

First step is to level the shower studs, if necessary, with a foam shim kit ensuring the backerboard is level and plumb for a more efficient tile installation. This also helps if any glass is to be installed after tile installation is finished.

Then to apply all of the seams, screws and corners with a waterproof urethane sealant.

02

Integrated Drain and Mud Bed

Next step is to glue the integrated drain flange to the existing P trap, provided the p trap is in good condition. Then pack and slope a mud mix of 1 part Portland cement and 4 parts sand to the concrete slab, sloping the mix to 1/4 inch per foot from the perimeter of the shower flush to the integrated drain while adhering the mud bed mix to the slab for consolidation.

03

Topical Sheet Membrane

This step requires a premium thinset to permanently adhere the waterproof sheet membrane to the new shower pan made of the 4 to 1 mud bed mix. Spreading the premium thinset with a small notched trowel then collapsing the notches of thinset with a flat trowel for full coverage ensuring complete adhesion.

04

Completion

After the waterproof sheet membrane is installed and set up, we'll apply urethane sealant or liquid waterproofing to the inside corners where the shower pan meets the shower walls and around the drain. Completing your new shower preparation for a quality installation that will last long after the tile goes out of style. This method avoids future problems that water in water out systems can cause.
